Life is so cool... the other day, I got a blessing handed to me... on my way to a meeting, I got sideswiped and took an unexpected detour... as a result I was an hour late to my meeting -- thank goodness for text messaging -- and had an enlightening experience.
I was dropping off a friend and on the way back from the loo, I got ushered to an impromptu Human Design consultation with Tom Pfeiffer... a wise and loving man. I did not know what any of it was and was illuminated nonetheless. It blew my mind... in a good way. And it was exactly what the doctor order... since I had been feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed as a result of traveling to Los Angeles, being a nomad again, and missing the nature and fresh air I had become accustomed to in the mountains. Tom was an angel... a ray of light.
Some of the things he said were so true... one was that unfortunately most people don't like themselves... but the good news is that the person they don't like isn't them anyway... because most people are not themselves. Human Design is a systems that reveals the true self as gloriously illustrated in a chart that is a reflection of the individual's DNA and is filled with tools as to how to express and a guide to decision making that's in harmony with your true self. It simplifies everything... Human Design is a wonderful tool to true independence.

Spiritual Arrogance
Spiritual arrogance is a common part of the spiritual process. Awareness is key because this arrogance can be dangerous... it's what leads to fanaticism. So this is an opportunity to check yourself.
I was a group meeting where I heard it said that anyone who has a relationship with God... that bond is not real unless it is through Jesus Christ. I am a big fan of Jesus... and from everything I've read and heard about him... especially during my intensive Ministry training that was all about the teachings of Jesus... it is clear that he was Mr. Compassion... now would Mr. Compassion really discount anyone's experience of divinity because it may not include him? That would not be compassionate at all... and would violate the Love thy Neighbor tradition... big time. Now I am not picking on Christians... it's the example I most recently heard.
All faiths run into and walk a fine line with spiritual arrogance... like with the Jews being the chosen people. I respect healthy self esteem. But it seems a bit challenging for everyone else - the not-chosen - to be as open and cooperative as they could be under that judgement.
Those are overt examples and obviously not everyone who is Jewish or Catholic thinks everyone else is less than.
What interests me is subtle spiritual arrogance...
I almost fell into this trap... but I caught myself as I was tripping over it... corrected and continued. As you know... no one is spared the wonders of the human experience.
Spiritual people have to be extra careful with this... it's easy to assume they know better because they are sensitive to energy, see spirits, or talk to them. I've heard things like... your energy field is a mess, and you have to take care of those entities. Oh really! This is very irresponsible behavior...
They are not taking into account that energy fields are in constant flux and that entities come and go. Plus, entities serve a purpose with your permission. Nothing can happen without your permission. Metaphysical phenomenon happens all the time, we are metaphysical beings... who communicate with spirits... everyone does this... it's not special... the difference is some are aware of it while others are not.
Spirituality is energy. It is natural, and it is everywhere. Eventually we get grounded in it, and what was once extraordinary and may have let us get confused and bit arrogant, becomes as simple as breathing... everyone has a relationship with their breath... it is harmonious and enriching... enjoy it!

Guidance vs. Choice
We all get guidance… we are receptors of data, feelings, hunches, and intuition. It’s great when we know something. Most of us have been working to trust this guidance… trust our higher self. Some people literary hear this guidance and for others… it is much more subtle.
The question then becomes -- is our higher self always right?
Yes and no.
It is right, now - in this moment, but depending on your choices from that moment on, the outcome can change.
You have the choice to do whatever you want, guidance or not. We all receive guidance in order to make a choice. Guidance is not LAW; it is guidance… there to direct us… the guidance is the pathway not the destination or outcome. Guidance is not GOD; it is you expressing God. Guidance is also relative to the question that was asked… when we ask a different question, we get a different answer.
In fact, most of us sabotage ourselves by asking loaded questions that are sometimes negative and set up for disappointment or to reinforce our judgment of self. Like if you asked your higher self, "Will I get raise at work?" And the immediate answer is "No." A common reaction can be, “See my life sucks, I never get what I want, and nothing ever works out!”
But, what if you just started this job a week ago? Of course you are not going to get a raise right this moment. But does this mean you will never get a raise? Should quit because there is no future there?
No, absolutely not. It just means you are not going to get a raise RIGHT NOW. If you ask, "How can I a get a raise a soon as possible?" or “What needs to happen for me to get a raise in two weeks?”… you would get a whole lot of different answers.
This is how we manipulates our higher self and set our selves up to fail… by asking loaded questions that the answers reinforce the status quo and confirms our own self-doubt.
The key here is how you ask the question… less "yes or no" and more "how to questions". But at the end of the day, it is our choices that decide our future and nothing else.
It is not Guidance vs. Choice… it is Guidance and Choice.
There are no absolutes, all things change. What is true today can be false tomorrow; it depends on the current choice.
Remember nothing is impossible in an infinite Universe. If you want it, you can have it. The only question is: who are you willing to BE to get it?
“Be, Do, Have…” is one of my favorite mantras.

Living on Light
Storyteller and Filmmaker, Macarena Bianchi, shares an extraordinary journey.
On the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru in December 2001, I came across an interesting way to maximize our human potential. I heard about contemporary individuals who live on prana which is Sanskrit for the Universal Life Force. Prana interpenetrates and is not limited to the air we breathe. In quantum physics it is referred to as the grand unification energy, the Chinese call it chi, the Polynesians mana, the Native American Indians orenda, and in yoga it is the breath of the universe understood to sustain all living things.
These average people have mastered their bodies, do not eat, and are in complete harmony. Initially I was attracted to the impact and potential this has on alleviating world hunger and wanted to make a movie about it. A month later in Los Angeles, I read the book “Living On Light” by Jasmuheen outlining a twenty-one day process that realigns the physical body to be nourished by prana. Not eating or sleeping as much are only a couple of the by-products of this spiritual initiation or reconnection with the true Source within. Living on Light is not for everyone; therefore, the book states that strict discernment must be exercised and includes a questionnaire clearly revealing whether or not someone is ready to do the process. My beliefs were in alignment with the book. I believe we are energy systems and create our own reality. I believe in the power of the mind and believe prana nourishment is possible. It felt right. By the time I finished the book, I knew I would do it.
The process is energetic and begins when someone decides to do it. The mental body, the emotional body, and the spiritual body start adjusting naturally and subtly. My mind understood that the vibration of my body at the quantum level would shift raising the light quotient within my cells. I knew my body would feel this and hoped it would be gentle. Emotionally, I faced the fear of alienation and not eating again. At times growing up, I felt alone and not understood so I thought not eating would make it worse even though when I fasted I did not feel like an outsider amongst my friends. Due to nutritional concerns and food allergies, I’ve had strict diets for many years. More recently, I did not deny my body anything it craved and enjoyed food tremendously. So I ate all my favorite things for about a month then gradually and naturally lost interest in food. It was very boring for the man who was my partner at the time because I did not care what we ate.
I contacted Jasmuheen in Australia to get more information about her work. In LA, I was line-producing an independent feature film. I was working intensely and was down about the possibilities of doing the process because Jasmuheen was on a lecture tour around the world and contact was limited. I wanted to find out where and with whom I could do the twenty-one days because it was not an option in my home with my roommates. The book advises not to be distracted by fear, friends, family, work, mass media, and so on because it is a time to allow the body to rest as it goes through major energetic surgery.
I did not know anyone who had actually completed the process at that time, and the book recommends to have someone who has as a guide. Jasmuheen’s office suggested Christopher Schneider who has a retreat center in Germany but was also traveling. On my last day of the production, just before shutting off my computer, I received an e-mail from him inviting me to join the next retreat which was eight days away and included English speaking people. I was leaving for Miami the next morning to work on a biography about a modern Muslim woman and the Akashic Records. I did not have the three-thousand dollars for the retreat or plane ticket, but repacked with Germany in mind anyway. I had clearly stated my desire and in a few days found enough money to go and take care of my bills for one month.
I shared my plans with close family and friends, some were excited while others were scared. I assured them I was aware that the body needs fuel and it is dangerous to suddenly stop eating. This is why there is a three week process in which the body adjusts to be fueled by prana. Some feared I would die while others felt I was joining a cult. I reminded them that cults leave people powerless and dependent, they do not empower people to be free and unlimited. I was patient with the ones who feared because I recognized the whole idea of Living on Light goes against mass consciousness. So naturally most were nervous because they believe “if you don’t eat, you die.” I had reached a point where I felt mass conscious beliefs were optional. One of the major points of the process is to detach from all limiting beliefs and tune into our inner divine wisdom. My partner surprised me because even though he did not understand what I was doing, he was very supportive. Fortunately my family and friends trusted me and knew I would never do anything to hurt myself. My parents are not religious or spiritual. My mom was open and my dad was not, but they should have seen this coming because my middle name is de la Luz which translates to Macarena of the Light, which I find funny and ironic.
The week before was interesting. My body didn’t crave any of my favorite foods from my hometown. Most of my eating was anticlimactic so I mostly ate raw vegetables. I wrote a letter to my sister with instructions on what to do incase of my death. I was very detached and not afraid, I knew I was ready. In fact, I was excited about my journey.
The retreat center is a beautiful place in the Bavarian countryside with mountains, fresh air, and a cold river flowing from the snow capped Alps. The four elements: earth, fire, water, and air are represented, balancing and purifying the energy. There were eight other people in the group. The youngest was seventeen and the oldest seventy. One woman was pregnant and did not know it, the process did not hinder her pregnancy. They looked normal: one was an engineer, two were mothers and housewives, two were students, and another managed his family’s properties. Everyone said they were there because it felt right. I was glad the group had a good sense of humor and everyone was more excited than scared. We agreed not to eat or drink, and no one told us what to do or watched us. What mattered was our word to ourselves.
We met in the morning almost every day. We danced to random music from love songs to techno to classical ballets to loosen up and get our energy moving. We did a few yoga sun salutations and meditated in silence for about seven minutes. We then sat in a circle and shared our feelings and experiences. This was optional so some said nothing, and I usually spilled my guts while everyone listened compassionately and without interfering. It wasn’t dramatic, we simply shared and if we cried, everyone allowed it to be and pass. This was cool because it is a solo journey being supported with the love of a group.
When there was something wrong, Chris guided us to ask our inner masters or our energy that is connected to the universal energy for help. When I felt hungry, I ordered food in my mind, and the hunger faded quickly. When I felt discomfort, I asked for relief. On the climb back after going for a walk, I sometimes had to rest by the side of the road. I would sit or lay down so I asked to be invisible to anyone not in the group because I do not speak German and was not in the mood to talk to strangers. It worked, I never called attention to myself. One day I was so exhausted after walking for hours, I asked to be invisible to everyone unless they could give me a ride. In no time, a car pulled up next to me and gave me a ride.
In the evenings, we made a fire. We sat on logs, watched the sky change colors, and stared at the fire, which transmutes emotional pollution and balances our energy. Most of the time, we were silent yet intimate in a way that only our eyes can communicate.
The first week was about the body, the second about the spirit, and the third was integration. I did not eat for twenty-one days, and I did not drink anything for seven days. No one did, the entire group succeeded. Whatever limiting beliefs we carried at the time came up physically during the process in order for us to let go of them. Old emotional issues that kept us disconnected manifested as physical discomforts as the body released them. Everyone’s experience was unique and different. Day six and seven were the most intense for me. I was very hot and uncomfortable. When I placed an iced towel on the nape of my neck, it became hot in less than a minute. Fortunately, I was not hungry. Though I was very thirsty, and my mouth was very dry; nevertheless, I was not going to drink if I was still thirsty. The thirst was a physical symptom for me to face my fear of failure. My mouth was dry because I was not in harmony by refusing to acknowledge my fear. The moment I did, my mouth was not dry and I was not thirsty even though it had been seven days. It took me to the edge, the others had not been thirsty for a day or so. I was very happy because I had experienced living on prana after surrendering to the fact it might not have been possible for me. It was incredible.
Most of us should have been dead by the seventh day without food or water, but we were alive and well. On that evening, we had our first drink. We drank diluted juice (20% with 80% water) to reintroduce the material world. After the process, food does not nourish the body but can be consumed for the experience of taste. Spirituality is not about denying the human experience or our senses. We carefully reintroduce the physical into our bodies as to not shock ourselves if we choose to intake food for pleasure later on.
I spent most of my time in the bathtub enjoying sea salt, apple vinegar, and almond oil baths because it felt great. Water has purification properties as symbolized by the Baptism in the Christian faith. When I had enough energy I walked to the river where I felt wonderful due to the high concentration of prana.
Sometimes I slept a lot other times not at all. Some slept outside in the cool air. Our rooms were assigned by us choosing a key, and I was very fortunate to get the room with a balcony. I slept out there one night and saw magnificent shooting stars.
During the second week, my throat hurt for a few days. Chris suggested I examine what I had or had not expressed. Eventually, I wrote a letter about unexpressed emotions to my father and my throat cleared.
As far as my bodily waste was concerned, I peed my usual amount, which was often, consistently the entire three weeks. Others had bowel movement everyday while I only did twice: the eve of day one and again on week two, which felt more like giving birth. I went more regularly during the last week, but it was mostly liquid since I only consumed diluted juice.
Everyone lost some weight initially. I also got off the birth control pill during the process so I lost a total of ten pounds. Nobody seemed to miss their excess weight, and I lost some unwanted bulk in the rear. Now, I weigh 100 lbs., which has been my average weight most of my life. If we did not believe we were being nourished by prana, we would have continued to lose weight.
After the fourteenth day, we increased our intake of the material by drinking 40% juice with 60% water. My ears had been clogged for about a week, and I knew I had to tune in and listen. I kept thinking about my partner and wondering if he had been faithful. It was driving me crazy because in my mind I knew this was not a problem because we had an agreement to be free, but I felt jealous. I finally wrote in my journal and discovered that my inner child also known as our gut or intuition was the one who was afraid. I reassured my inner child I was there for her, we only wanted to share our love with this man, and did not need him. As I wrote and explored these feelings, my ears unclogged instantly.
This spiritual journey is protected by the Akashic Records, which is the energy field containing all knowledge, thoughts, and emotions of everything including everyone’s past, present, and future. The Records are like an ethereal library. It is known in the Bible as the Book of Life and in the Torah the Book of Knowledge. Buddhism literature calls it nature’s memory. In Islam, it is the direct communication immediately after prayer while sitting in silence. In Christianity, it is what Saint Peter refers to when he reviews your life at the gates of heaven. Hindu literature calls it the primary principle of nature. Psychologist Carl Jung called it the collective unconsciousness. An example of the Akashic Records is the Oracle in the film The Matrix. The Records inform but do not influence. There is no right or wrong, the information serves as direction to lead us on a path for us to grow and create. Our will is extremely important. The Neo character wanted to find out if he was the One. At that point, he was not because he did not believe he was. The Oracle told him what he needed to hear, which was that he was not. The answer released the pressure and allowed him to become the One. When I consulted with the Records about Living On Light, they would not tell me what to do. Once I decided to do it, I was told they supported my decision, and it was for the highest good of the planet. By “they” I am referring to the Masters, Teachers, and Loved Ones who protect and communicate what is in the Akashic Records.
Everyone in the group recognized and respects all Ascended Masters and Saints transcending religion. Chris had paintings of most of them from Mother Mary to Buddha. This openness and unity was refreshing because where I live this sort of angel speak is not common. During the night when we got up to use the restroom, it was understood that we should be careful because we would be light headed and disorientated. Sometimes people woke up on the floor wondering where they were and if they had gone to the bathroom yet. Chris told us to command our bodies with clear direction like “going to the bathroom now.” Other times when we got up, our eyes went completely black so we could not see anything for a few seconds. During our meeting one day, we heard a terrible noise. We looked and the seventeen year old was laying on the tile floor completely passed out in corpse pose. He got up so fast, his energy didn’t catch up to his body until he slipped and fell. Chris went over to him and woke him up. The boy did not know where he was or what happened. When he regained all his senses, he reported that he was fine and not injured. We were so protected that no one was ever hurt during the three weeks.
During the last week, I reflected on the world and returning to LA. By this time, I had more energy and was able to read five books. I read about free energy and a sustainable planet, which fascinates me because it is my dream to live in an environmentally sound and self sustainable home. Moreover, if we can be sustained by prana, why not everything else including electronics and cars. I also read about Ascension and learned that globally it is happening to planet Earth, and it begins individually when we remember that we are One and not separate from God or anything else. I read “Messages from Water” about the power of intention as illustrated by the experiments of Masuro Emoto with water crystals and their development according to the influence of words and music. I read channelings from Ascended Masters: Sonanda, Ptah, Ariel, and Serapis. They spoke of joy as the spark in life that lets us know when we are in harmony and on the right path.
Originally there were suppose to be ten of us in the group. The tenth was hospitalized by her family to prevent her from joining us. She was a housewife and mother in her mid forties who had a history of anorexia. Her family was scared, and she was uncertain. Her mother spoke with Chris, felt better, and allowed her to visit. Chris asked our permission and none of us objected. She spent two beautiful days with us as she explored her fear and decided what was right for her.
On the nineteenth day, we went into the little village. The owner of the property, who has not done the process, drove us. He has no point of reference and did not realize we had not been in a car for three weeks so he drove very fast. The ride was so intense, I felt like I was in a video game. Once surrounded by people, I felt fine but some in our group were overwhelmed. It was fun strolling through the shops and restaurants. I walked slowly. I enjoyed smelling the fresh fruit and admiring their color. I did not like the smell of cigarettes and fried food. I went into a huge chocolate shop and bakery to see how I would feel because I love chocolate. I admired the desserts and all the variety of sweets but felt detached and did not crave anything. As I walked around the village, I felt hungry and asked my body what it wanted. I thought prana and felt complete. My hunger could not be satisfied by food anymore. At that moment, I realized how much everything had changed, even my relationship to chocolate.
The last day did not feel like the completion of a fast, where I would have been glad it was over. The more of us that do it, the easier it becomes for others because it increases the critical mass of this idea in mass consciousness. The process was gentle and smooth. It did not feel like the end, it felt like the beginning. A glorious and natural progression for us to continue to choose love at every moment. I imagine the process to be like an Aborigine’s walkabout or a fire walk where we do what most people see as impossible to find out who we really are. It is about mind power and energy over matter. It was very healing. As a result, I have understood the laws which govern the solid universe. I’ve experienced mastery of my body as I’m not dependent on food or medicine anymore. I feel connected and in harmony with detachment and joy. It is incredibly liberating to be free of hunger and be free to enjoy flavor. Everything I need is inside of me, nothing external could fulfill me or make me happy. My relationship with my partner ended as most relationships change as we change. I do not feel alone or alienated, I am complete. I am exploring the world from this new perspective, and I look forward to finding the story and writing a screenplay. The mind that does not fear knows no boundaries.

On the first day, “Sacred Mirrors, The Visionary Art of Alex Grey” was passed around. His triptych of the ‘Journey of the Wounded Healer’ was offered as a metaphor for the process we were embarking on. I didn’t really understand until it was over. By “Living On Light,” we become en-light-ened, which means we become more light at the cellular level. This is part of ascension which is always preceded by dissension.
